The existing school building, donated by Sabancı Vakfı to the Ministry of National Education, needed more workshop classrooms. It sits between the TEM motorway and Fatma Seher Hanım Street to the north. The street side, where the entrance is, is a hard-paved garden. To the south, on the motorway side, there is a stretch of land better suited to an addition. The programme the school asked for can also be resolved on two floors.
Two alternative plan logics were presented to the foundation: the first a long volume lifted off the ground on a steel colonnade, industrial in character, so as not to interrupt the continuity of the garden and to set up a stronger circulation from the classroom floors; the second a compact volume resting on the ground, fed both from the side garden and from the classroom floors. The second alternative was developed, and the building was designed as a reinforced concrete frame. Six workshop volumes are separated from one another with teachers' rooms and service spaces left between them, and are linked to the classroom floors by a steel bridge.
