Metro Ofis was published on Contemporist on 27 August 2015. The North America-based Contemporist publishes selected architecture and design work; it built its story on Metro Ofis’s wave-like facade and took its headline from it.
Rising 60 metres on the E-5 highway in Pendik, the building holds 77 office units across 20 floors. Thin reinforced concrete slabs were clad in white CNC-cut aluminium panels, shaped and rhythmed differently on each floor. The panels produce a continuous wave reading across the facade while also providing solar control; the dark colour of the balcony soffits and window frames strengthens the way the white waves detach from the surface.
The building sits within the fast-rising office fabric of the strip between Kartal and Pendik. The movement on the facade was used less as a display in itself than to soften how the repeating floor plans read from outside, and to give the building an identity at its own scale.
