Fuat Taşkıranoğlu was a guest of Yapı Kataloğu’s “Architects’ Guide” interview series. Yapı Kataloğu is one of the most established product and company directories in the Turkish construction sector; architects taking part in the series are asked to choose one of four themes — users and their needs, sustainability and green design, the relationship between architecture and technology, and the cities of the future.
Taşkıranoğlu chose “users and their needs”. In the conversation he dwells on design being human-centred and on the way buildings transform their surroundings, describing living culture and modes of communication and work as decisive in housing and office design.
He adds that design is fed by many inputs — from the colour palette to perspective, from the texture of the building to its relationship with the ground — and that alongside ideal arguments, economics has the last word in material selection under the conditions of the day.
