An urban regeneration project at one of the main junctions in Tuzla. The residential blocks open onto an inner garden set on the podium above the shops along the avenue.
Two L-shaped blocks of differing scale are placed along the plot boundaries. The garden above ground level is thereby given the widest possible area, while the blocks settle into positions where neither obstructs the other’s panorama.
The block facing the avenue has fewer storeys, both to reduce the size of its core under fire regulations and to avoid blocking the other blocks.
Access to the complex is taken from the smaller street at the rear so as not to overwhelm the shops on the avenue. The entrance is defined by a large-scale curved canopy that gives it a standing of its own.
Above a certain floor, brick cladding was chosen on the elevations to set up a contrast of form. On the small block facing the avenue every elevation is brick, and standing-seam sheeting was used on the roof.
