Deniz Apartment, on the coastal road in Caddebostan, is an urban renewal project. In the 4,000m² building designed for Helis Yapı, the ground floor is given over to retail units and the upper floors to housing.

The character of the building is set by the rhythm of the balconies on its front façade. The balcony lines continue from floor to floor, each differing symmetrically from the one below; the façade is therefore read not as identical balconies stacked vertically but as a wave-like rhythm that shifts from storey to storey. So that this rhythm remains free, the balconies nowhere touch the lines that frame the façade. The frame, by contrast, is a rigid and unchanging element, and it frames this idea. What makes the building distinctive on the coastal road is this relationship between frame and wave.

A timber-clad projection sits on the side façade. The projection is placed in proportion within the broad white wall. The ratio of the timber mass to the white surface finds its meaning in the fundamental design principle of solid and void.
